What Is Somdwain?

Samhain (/ˈsɑːwɪn, ˈsaʊɪn/, Irish: [ˈsˠəunʲ], Scottish Gaelic: [ˈs̪ãũ.ɪɲ]; Manx: Sauin [ˈsoːɪnʲ]) is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or “darker-half” of the year.

Somdwain (som:dwain) is the non-sensical festival of Dwayne’s existence in preparation for their solar return. Held December 1-22, it is marked by excessive social media posts, oversharing of personal information, writing and sharing of moody poetry, and dancing.

A friend of mine suggested that I celebrate a bit more. This year, but like last year, has been a mess. With so much of life en flux – we need to take time to indulge in something consistent – growing older. You know what, I’m good at that. I’ve been doing that for 37 years and God willing, I’ll be doing that again on December 23rd.

That same friend suggested Samhain as a framework (and a fantastic pun). Because life is a series of reaping and sowing. The joy is our harvest. I’m it’s harvest season! So I’ll be posting daily from December 1st through December 22nd. There will be a ton of new content. Some videos, some events, some karaoke, some releases.

So thanks for joining me on my journey. Thanks for seeding into my growth. Thanks for being. Happy Somdwain!
