I’m blessed to be a working artist. I get booked for performances, readings, workshops, etc — and I’m happy to have work.

That said, after 20 years of sharing words, you seek ways to dedicate your work to something greater than your personal gratification or artistic expression.

6 years ago I started a personal tradition of dedicating a solo performance to various girls and women in my life. “Poems About Women” has become one of my favorite performances annually because I get to celebrate, love, and support the women who have impacted my life — often with those women in the audience.

This year, with the ongoing pandemic, the feature set was scheduled for a period when I would be on a writing retreat on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Sharing poems about women, with the ocean… it only seemed right.
